About our Guild
In 1987 Barb Patterson contacted Ina Muller to craft some hand spun wool for her, they quickly formed a friendship and soon afterwords wondered about setting up a guild where fellow spinners and weavers could meet up to learn and grow their craft.
Lindy Smith a local hand spinner was contacted as to whether she thought it was a good idea. Lindy supported the idea with enthusiasm and the first meeting was held in York next to the Grand River.
From the beginning it was decided that the guild would be firmly based on teaching anyone who wanted to learn spinning and weaving and to share their own knowledge.
In the years following, the guild has provided outreach to the community through demonstrations at local fairs, schools, museums and events. It has grown from 6 members to almost 30 and continues to grow each year.
The guild is a welcoming, supportive and inspiring environment for spinners and weavers at all stages of experience, the creativity and artistic merit of the textile arts guild members is truly amazing.

Generally our guild meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm. In addition we will host a few extra workshops and demonstrations on additional days throughout the year. A few of these classes are pictured below.
During our regular monthly meetings members are encouraged to bring in their current or finished projects to share and inspire. Sometimes there will be a theme or discussion or short lesson as well.
Everyone is encouraged to ask and learn and share their fiber knowledge.
